Hello foodies !
This post will be all about TASTY FOOD ! Yumyumyum
As I am a student in Ghent and only very few youngster like to cook every day, I often go out to grab some food. As most of the other students I do am on a budget, so top food at low price is what we are looking for. I am very happy to show you Ghent has a lot of options you can choose from to have a delicious, low cost meal!
Left: De Kastart
+- € 10
De Kastart is very famous for his home made special spaghetti sauce. It's a waste go there and just eat a normal spaghetti Bolognese. You can choose between three sizes: small, medium and large. The large one is only for the very brave, as you can see on the picture!
Right: Delivery Chinese Panda
+- € 15
Sometimes life in Belgium can be rainy and cold, that's where the delivery restaurants come in. I make use of it at least once a week. In Ghent there's a big variety of several restaurants who deliver, even for free! Last time I chose a Chinese, once in every few weeks I can really look forward to some good Chinese noodles and Dim Sum!
Left : Mac Donalds
+- € 6
Mac Donalds is one of the biggest chains in the world, so it's evident that there are also several Mac's in Ghent! There is one located at the end of the shopping street so when I hit the malls I always get in line for my Chicken Nuggets' menu !
Right: Wok Away
+- € 12
The Wok Away is also a chain, this one makes Asian food, in particular wok! You can also order some spring rolls and other finger food as a starter. You can compose your own meal or choose from combinations they already made for you.
Left: De Gekroonde Hoofden
+- € 20
De Gekroonde Hoofden is together with the Amadeus, the best restaurant in Ghent to eat spare ribs! Both restaurants' concept is a little different, the "Amadeus" serves his ribs with a big potato and a mysterious yellow and brown sauce, of which no one the recipe knows. At "De Gekroonde Hoofden" you get your ribs with some Turkish bread, it's a little more dry than your dish at the Amadeus but the ribs itself are better and more pure.
Right: Orchidee
+- € 12
The 'Orchidee' is just like the Wok Away a wok restaurant. The 'Orchidee' is smaller and, as far as I know, is the one in Ghent the only one that exists, so it makes it kinda special. The concept at the 'Orchidee' is that you choose between several kinds of meat, and for the veggies also prawns and tofu, then you can grab a plate and fill it up as high as you like with a variety of vegetables. After this you also have to choose a sauce you want to go with the rest of your dish and then they make it à la minute for you! It's always fully packed so I think that says enough about the quality of the food.
Left: Ikea
+- € 5
Ikea is actually a chain which produces furniture and other accessoires. Only, the shop is so big it's actually a family of friend day trip if you want to go shopping there. Therefor there's a restaurant! What more could you want, shopping and eating all rolled into one! The best part is that the food is really really good and the cheapest you will find. The way I see it, the signature dish of Ikea are the Swedish meatballs, I eat it every time I go there, and as I look around me when I'm eating, I'm definitely not the only one.
Right: Prima Donna
+- € 10
Prima Donna is an Italian restaurant situated in the 'party street' of Ghent. People pass by there at all times during the day so you'll never be the only guest at the restaurant. There is in particular a very large choice in pizza's, in the picture you can see their pizza 'Exotic' and their pasta macaroni.
As a student you often have some free time between your classes. What's a better way to spend that time , than, apart from shopping, to drink some coffee and eat some 'desserts'.
Left: Chocoladebar Quetzal
+- € 6
At Quetzal you can get many many things which are created around their key ingredient, Chocolate! Here me and my friend choose an ice cream, I took one with white chocolate and bananas, where she took one with brownies!
Right: Starbucks
+- € 4
Starbucks is known all over the world, and since last year we can also enjoy their coffee in Ghent! It's not cheap but every once in a while a trip to Starbucks makes your day. I always try the new ones, this time I took a Christmas special, a little early but it directly got me in the Christmas mood!
I hope you all saw something you want to try when you come to Ghent! This city has a lot to offer, much more than universities and other school, if you're a real foodie you should definitely stop by!
Big big kiss
